Jessica Jones' is a hard drinking, broken shell of a woman battling personal demons and constantly hovering just above rock bottom.

He hard life is echoed in her less than stellar personal choices and risky sexual behaviors, one of which is getting violently "Banged-Out" on a regular basis by an impossibly muscular black man. None of these are things a well adjusted, respectable white woman would do.

That is the literary device the writers are using to show how "down & out" Jones' life is now, how far she's fallen.
